2006 Jeep Wrangler Air Bag Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain the Passenger Air Bag on 2006 Jeep Wrangler?
A: The passenger air bag should be serviced by first disconnecting and isolating the battery negative cable to turn off the supplemental restraint system and wait for two minutes afterward to let the system capacitor discharge. Make sure to use rubber gloves, eye protection and a long-sleeved shirt when handling an air bag because chemicals on the air bag and nearby surfaces may be irritating. Start by taking the instrument panel out of the car and setting it down on a safe area where it won't get scratched or dented. After that, take out the three nuts attaching the passenger air bag to the weld studs on the instrument panel. Attach the new air bag over the weld studs and put in and tighten the three nuts to 12 N.m (105 in. lbs.) to secure the rear mounting brackets. Connect the air bag wire back to the instrument panel and make sure it is completely engaged. After finishing service to any supplemental restraint system part, do not reconnect the battery negative cable until the verification test is done.
