2006 Jeep Wrangler Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Exhaust Manifold on 2006 Jeep Wrangler?
A: To work on the exhaust manifold, first lift the car, take the exhaust pipe off the manifold and then lower it again. After that, detach the oxygen sensor connector towards the front of the exhaust manifold, remove the bracket for the air cleaner and disconnect the heat shield. Remove the bolts holding the manifold to the cylinder head and afterward take out the exhaust manifold. Check the manifold for any problems. If you have a gasket, remove it and clean up everything on the manifold and cylinder head. Straight edges should show that the gasket surfaces are less than 0.15 mm out of flat within 300 mm (0.006 in. per foot) of each manifold. Also, inspect the manifolds visually for cracks or distortion, replacing them when necessary. When installing the manifold, first clean both mating surfaces, apply a new gasket to the manifold and tighten the nuts to 20 Nm (175 inch lbs.). Fit the exhaust pipe into the manifold and secure it with fasteners set to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.), next attach and connect the oxygen sensor, after that install the heat shield and the air cleaner bracket.
