2006 Jeep Wrangler Speed Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Speed Sensor in Various Drivetrain Configurations on 2006 Jeep Wrangler?
A: The VSS position is the speedometer pinion gear adapter for all vehicles, with it being on the transfer case extension on the left for 4WD and on the transmission extension housing on the left for 2WD. The first step is to elevate the vehicle and next, push the slide tab to disconnect the electrical connector. Then, after placing the sensor where you want it, push on the secondary release lock to ease the connector out of the sensor. Then, unscrew the sensor mounting bolt and simply pull the sensor straight out from the pinion gear adapter, leaving the adapter on the transmission. Before placing the sensor into the adapter, clean the interior of the adapter, mount the sensor using the bolt and check that the sensor is tightly placed and even with the adapter. At last, tighten the sensor mounting bolt to 2.2 Nm (20 inch lbs.) and snap back the electrical connector.
