2006 Jeep Wrangler Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Steering Knuckle on 2006 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before starting to service or repair the steering knuckle, take out the hub bearing and axle shaft because you must do this for ball stud procedures. Use utensils in Tool Kit 6289 to take out and put back the upper and lower ball studs. Lift the tie-rod or drag link from the steering knuckle arm, then take out the cotter pins from both the upper and lower ball studs. Then, remove the nuts from the ball studs. Put the special tool C-4150A onto the ball joints and rotate it to pull off the ball joints and knuckle from the ball studs. To put it together, set the steering knuckle over the ball studs, attach the bottom retaining nut and tighten it to 109 Nm (80 ft. lbs.). Install a new cotter pin after that. After that, put in the upper retaining nut, tighten it up to 101 Nm (75 ft. lbs.) torque and secure it with a different cotter pin. When finished, reinstall the hub bearing and axle shaft and plug the tie-rod or drag link back into the steering knuckle arm.
