2006 Jeep Wrangler Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Wheel Bearing on an Axle on 2006 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Take the vehicle's axle shaft out first, as the axle race bearing could be wobbling inside the axle tube. Make a small hole in the soft steel axle bearing retaining ring with a 3/8 inch drill bit and drill stopper, so that the axle does not get marked. Carefully slice the retaining ring across its hole with a cold chisel and take it off the axle shaft. Grab the axle bearing with a press after setting Splitter 1130 so it diametrically faces the seal. Move the splitter so that it pushes the seal through the bearing and finally lift the bearing and remove the seal and retaining plate from the axle shaft. Make sure that the axle shaft retaining plate is flat with a straight edge; if it isn't flat, get a new one. Put the retaining plate on the axle, apply some grease to the top part of the axle seal and install the seal with the empty vacant area turned away from the retaining plate. Placing Mopar Wheel Bearing Grease or a similar product inside the bearing will be enough; just wipe any remaining grease outside it. Fit the bearing on the axle shaft by placing it into Installer 7913 and pressing with a press, so that the groove is away from the outer end of the seal. Slide the soft metal retaining ring into place on the axle using the press and Installer 7913 and now put the axle back into your vehicle.
