2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Service the Automatic Transmission Filter in a 41TE Automatic Transaxle on 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Mopar® ATF+4 should be the only type of fluid used in the 41TE Automatic Transaxle and it's recommended to change the filter during oil replacement and clean the magnet in the oil pan with a dry, clean cloth. If you break down the transaxle, the liquid and filter should be swapped out. You should lift the vehicle on a hoist, drain the oil and install a container below the transaxle oil pan. Release the bolts and rap the pan next to one corner; let the liquid drain before you take off the oil pan. Replace both the filter and O-ring at the valve bottom, clean the oil pan and magnet and use fresh sealant to secure the oil pan, tightening its bolts to 19 Nm. Add four quarts of Mopar® ATF+4 to the dipstick opening, start the car, then have it idle for at least a minute. After parking and pressing the brakes, touch the selector lever to every option and finish in park or neutral. On the dipstick, confirm the transaxle fluid is above 3 mm (1/8 in.) from the lowest line, add more if needed and then check it again once the transaxle gets to 82°C (180°F). Making sure the dipstick is dropped all the way protects the transaxle from getting dirty. If you're using the dipstick tube fluid suction method, check that the transaxle is fully hot, attach a Vacula™ or similar device and make sure the suction line is in the dipstick tube, directly at the bottom of the oil pan for a complete evacuation. Once the fluid is removed, connect the suction line again, pour in four quarts of Mopar ATF+4 through the dipstick hole, start the engine, check and top off the fluid as earlier shown and ensure you fully seat the dipstick afterward.
