2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser Front Cross-Member Parts and Q&A
Q: How to remove the Front Cross-Member on 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: First, raise the vehicle and unattach both front tires and wheels, then you can take out the front crossmember. Disconnect both stabilizer bar links by griping the upper retainer/nut with your wrench and rotating the link bolt and then pull off the cushion retainer bolts and retainers, then lift off the stabilizer bar and its cushions. With the nut out, pinch off each ball joint stud nut clamp, but be sure not to pull on the steering knuckle to separate it from the driveshaft. Gently pry down on the lower control arm against the boss on the steering knuckle to release each ball joint stud from the steering arm. Release the cooler by removing both screws from the front suspension crossmember. Attach a bungee cord or use a wire to hold up the power steering gear, so it doesn't fall when the crossmember is lowered. Relax the tension on the four bolts joined to the front suspension crossmember, then lift the power steering gear away from its mount. Break the pencil connection at the front right corner of the crossmember and slide the washer off the torque strut bolt. Unscrew the screws keeping the front fascia on, to access and remove the drive-belt splash shield fastener screws and the shield. Unfasten and take away the bolt that holds the engine torque strut to the right forward corner of the front suspension crossmember. It is important to trace the crossmember's spot on the car before taking it out, to make certain it goes back in correctly, as any mistake here could mess up the wheel alignment at the front. Put a transmission jack under the front suspension crossmember's center point and raise it to hold it up. Unscrew all the suspension crossmember bolts at the front, keeping the two bolts on the rear of the control arm isolated from disconnecting. After removing the four bolts, let the suspension crossmember down and pull out the bolts from the pivot points on each lower control arm.
