2007 Dodge Caliber Piston Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install Piston and Connecting Rod Assemblies on 2007 Dodge Caliber?
A: The first step of installing piston and connecting rod assemblies is to put the piston rings on, making sure the top compression ring gap and the second compression ring gap do not line up with the oil ring rail gap. Once on the ring compressor, make sure the oil ring expander ends are aligned and the rail high between the rings is right when seen from above the piston. Put the piston head and rings into clean engine oil and then cover that with the ring compressor, while avoiding any changes to their positions. The arrow on the piston should point to the front of the engine. Turn the crankshaft so that the connecting rod journal is halfway into the cylinder bore and sprinkle clean engine oil around the journal. Pick the appropriate rod bearing, shown on the nose of the crankshaft and slide the upper bearing into the connecting rod. Press the piston into the cylinder bore with a pistol using the ring compressor and simultaneously put the connecting rod onto the connecting rod journal. Don't reuse the bolts for connecting rod caps; apply clean engine oil to the threads of the new bolts before fitting the lower bearing half onto the connecting rod cap. Apply tension to every bolt and tighten with your hands, then torque them to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) and finish by turning another 90° without a torque wrench. First, check the rod side clearance with a feeler gauge, then move on to install the ladder frame, oil pump, oil pan, cylinder head and join the transaxle assembly to the engine before putting the engine in place.
