2007 Dodge Caliber Piston Ring Set Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What is the correct method to install a Piston Ring Set on 2007 Dodge Caliber?
A: Alignment is important, so place the upper and intermediate piston rings so that the letter or mark on their faces is pointing toward the top of the piston. Start with the oil ring expander, then the upper oil ring side rail and finally set the lower oil ring side rail. For the side rails, slide one end into the space between the piston ring groove and the oil ring expander, press down with force using your fingers and don't push with the piston ring expander. The upper compression ring is marked Y1 and the second compression ring is marked Y2; both markings must hide within the siphon when assembled. Following No. 2, put in No. 1 piston ring, while watching the piston from the top, as the proper positioning will help manage oil. Move the oil expander ring so its gap is in the 1 position, the oil ring rails can go in the 2 and 4 positions, the second compression ring gap rests in the 3 position and the top compression ring gap is in the 1 position.
