2007 Dodge Dakota Crankshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How is a Crankshaft Installed in an Engine on 2007 Dodge Dakota?
A: Be sure the main bearings are installed properly and take care to not scrape the bearing surfaces of the crankshaft while assembling it. Sealant should be applied to the tone wheel screws before moving on. Paint clean engine oil on the upper main bearing halves and put the crankshaft back into the cylinder block. Place the thrust washers in their places, then apply Mopar(R) Engine RTV sealant to the bedplate to cylinder block joint to avoid oil leaks. Clean and oil-free the sealing surfaces to prevent the main bearing from changing shape and the oil from leaking. Run a 2.5mm (0.100 inch) bead of Mopar(R) Engine RTV sealant around the frame of the cylinder block, as it connects to the bedplate. Clean off the crankshaft main bearing journals with engine oil and put the bedplate onto the cylinder block, lubricating the bedplate bolts with clean oil before setting them. Make sure the stud bolts are in the right place, bring the bedplate into contact with the block by hand tightening bolts 1D, 1G and 1F and screw all other bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.), then tighten bolts 1 - 8 to 7 Nm (5 ft. lbs.) and rotate those bolts an extra 90 degrees. After that, attach bolts A - E with a torque of 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). Check the amount of end play on the crankshaft, fit the connecting rods and measure the clearance at the sides, afterward install the oil pump and engine.
