2007 Dodge Dakota Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace an Oil Pan on 2007 Dodge Dakota?
A: The first thing to do is disconnect the battery's negative cable. For now, install special tool #8534 to support the engine, without raising it. Both the left and right side engine mounts are held by bolts, so remove them and pull off the structural dust cover before draining the engine oil. Using tool #8534, lower the engine a bit so it does not touch the intake manifold, but only as far as it doesn't obstruct the fan shroud to fan clearance. To make the oil pan accessible in a 4WD, you can reduce the height of the front axle, so you won't have to lift the front end to get at the oil pan. De-attach the pinion bracket, loose the front driveshaft from the front axle and remove all the bolts linking the front axle to the frame. Use a suitable jack to lower the axle, giving enough room to remove the oil pan and don't apply pressure near the oil pan or its gasket, because the gasket is essential to the engine's windage tray and remains attached to the oil pan. After that, take out the oil pan mounting bolts and lift the oil pan off, unbolt the oil pump pickup tube and examine the windage tray and its gasket, replacing them as required.
