The Oil Pan that is fitted in Dodge Dakota vehicles is the part that holds engine oil for circulation in the engine in order to facilitate proper lubrication and for cooling of parts. Employing a wet sump design, the Oil Pan receives oil pulled via a pickup tube by the oil pump to circulate the oil inside the engine before it returns to the pan. This design is very crucial for ensuring that the oil levels are well maintained when the machine is in operation at different levels. In the past, Dodge Dakota Oil Pans used stamped steel for construction, however, with the contemporary designs, cast aluminum was used to give a better performing part. Therefore with the development of the basic purpose of this component there is adoption of more complex material based on the enhancements in designs and optimal operations of engines.

Dodge Dakota Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace an Oil Pan on Dodge Dakota?
    A:
Before you remove the oil pan, clean the matching surfaces of the oil pan gasket on the bedplate and the oil pan. Place the oil gasket in the oil pan and the new o-ring on the pickup tube, then secure the mounting bolt with the nuts and tighten them firmly to 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). After that, mount the oil pan and fasten the bolts accordingly by turning them to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). Set the engine into its mounts with the use of special tool #8534 and fasten both engine mounts using bolts to a torque of 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.). Lift out special tool #8534 and attach the structural dust cover to the work area. To make space for the oil pan's removal, reduce the front axle on four-wheel-drive vehicles without having to remove the axle or its shafts from the car. First, use a suitable jack to lift the axle and after that, install the front mounting bolts, bracket and front driveshaft onto the front axle. Fill the engine's oil before attaching the negative Battery Cable and starting the machine. Make sure there are no leaks afterward.
  • Q: How to Install an Oil Pan on Dodge Dakota?
    A:
Begin by cleaning both the engine oil pan gasket surface on the oil pan and the area of the motorcycle bedplate's mating surface. Set the gasket and pickup tube with the new o-ring in place, bolt them and tighten with 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). After that, fit the oil pan and tighten its holding bolts to 16 Nm (140 in. lbs.) in the given pattern. Set the engine into the mounts using special tool 8534B and then attach both the left and right mounts to the engine by tightening the bolts to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.). Unscrew tool 8534B and put in the structural dust cover. Lower the front of the vehicle when working on 4WDs, so its oil pan is clear and does not need to be removed lowering the axle. Place the vehicle on a jack, move the axle higher, install the front axle mounting bolts, fit the pinion bracket and the front driveshaft onto the front axle. Add oil to the engine, connect the negative Battery Cable and then start the engine to look for any leaks.
