2007 Dodge Dakota Timing Chain Parts and Q&A
Q: What Components in a Timing Chain System Need Inspection and Replacement on 2007 Dodge Dakota?
A: Checked the sprockets for signs of heavy tooth wear, because even minor signs can be considered usual and you don't need to change them. Examine both the bushing in the idler sprocket assembly and its shaft for wear and check that the spline joint between the idler sprocket assembly and transmission is not loose and doesn't move back and forth. If the groves in the plastic face on the chain guides and tensioner arms are over 1 mm wide, check the tensioner lube jet and swap its component if needed; for heavily grooved or melted plastic, replace the tensioner. Examine the secondary chain tensioner piston and the ratcheting device, as contact between the tensioner piston and tensioner arm may demand replacement of the chain, tensioner and tensioner arm. Always be sure to change out the original plastic tensioner faces when it's necessary.
