2007 Dodge Durango Crankshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Crankshaft and Ensure Proper Sealing and Torque Specifications on 2007 Dodge Durango?
A: While installing the crankshaft, be sure to use the right bearings and do not harm the bearing surfaces while you work. Remember to apply sealant to the tone wheel retaining screws as preparation. Add some clean engine oil to the upper main bearing halves and place the crankshaft into the engine block, above the thrust washers. The mating surface between the bedplate and the cylinder block should be treated with Mopar(R) Engine RTV to block most problems with oil leaks and this will help keep both surfaces clean. Apply a 2.5 mm (0.100 inch) layer of Mopar(R) Engine RTV sealant to the surface connecting the cylinder block and bedplate, after which wipe on clean oil to the crankshaft main bearing journals and put the bedplate on the block. Before fitting the bolts, apply clean engine oil to the bedplate retaining bolts and check that the stud bolts are in the right spot. First, tighten bolts 1D, 1G and 1F by hand until the bedplate contacts the block; next, tighten bolts 1A through 1J to 54 Nm, bolts 1 to 8 to 7 Nm, loosen these bolts 1/2 turn and tighten bolts A through E to 27 Nm. Apply end play to the crankshaft, install the connecting rods, measure their side clearance and then fit the oil pump and engine.
