First, take off the transmission to remove the crankshaft when the engine is still in the vehicle. After that, you should unfasten the
Oil Pan just as you would the oil pump from the rear main bearing cap, then the damper for vibration and cover for the timing chain. Carefully remove the rod bearing caps with bearings from the upper end of the crankshaft, being sure to support the crankshaft so it doesn't fall as you remove the cap. After using a suitable jack to support the crankshaft, take off the bearings and caps one at a time, removing them from each end. Take out the crankshaft oil seals in the front and rear areas. Make sure you remove any leftover gasket maker and sealant before putting Mopar Gasket Maker on the mating surface of the cylinder block and rear cap. Rub a bit of oil on the new upper seal lips and set the upper rear bearing oil seal into place so that the white paint is towards the rear of the engine. Set the crankshaft into the cylinder block, apply a little oil to the lower seal lips and position the new lower rear bearing oil seal into the bearing cap with the white paint at the front. Apply a small dab-about 5 mm-of Mopar Gasket Maker to both sides of the rear main bearing cap and make sure it does not touch the rubber seal, then install the bearing cap to the cylinder block. Make sure the bearing cap is placed using the cap slot, alignment dowel and bolts, so you don't remove too much material and strike the rear cap only twice for adequate engagement. Oil all cap bolts and clean them and then screw on the main bearing caps and tighten every alternating cap bolt to 115 Nm. Place the oil pump, timing chain cover and the vibration damper inside the engine block. Clamp the connecting rods onto the crankshaft and mount the caps with the bearing rods inside. Ensure the nuts are tightened to 61 Nm. Put Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant on the bearing cap and work it around the joint to seal it. Make sure you apply plenty so some will come out onto the oil pan seal line and afterwards wipe up the extra. After that, put in place the new front crankshaft oil seal and right away place the oil pan into the engine.
