2007 Dodge Nitro Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Clock Spring Assembly on 2007 Dodge Nitro?
A: Before installing the Clock Spring assembly, disconnect the negative battery cable, so the air bag system will not accidentally go off, wait at least two minutes for the capacitor to discharge, then reconnect the negative cable. The replacement part called a service Clock Spring already has a locked position with a molded pin that won't move until the steering wheel is in place. With the steering wheel in the straight position and the lock on, you should begin. If changing to a new Clock Spring, either move the switch jumper harness from the old unit or install a new one. Slip the Clock Spring over the upper shaft of the steering column and hook up the three instrument panel wire harness connectors to the back of the Clock Spring case. Set the Clock Spring on the steering column lock housing and use three screws: lower right first, then upper left and finally upper right, tighten them all to 3 Nm (27 in. lbs.), so the Clock Spring does not make noise when you rotate the steering wheel. After that, set the multi-function switches back in their left and right positions on the Clock Spring and place the upper and lower shrouds onto the steering column. With the column at the highest point, lock it in place and fit the wheel back on again. Lastly, remove the plastic locking pin from the Clock Spring rotor so the clock remains centered and put back the battery negative cable.
