2007 Dodge Nitro Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Damaged or Ineffective Air Bag on 2007 Dodge Nitro?
A: The air bag needs to be discharged to replace a damaged or ineffective side curtain air bag, so begin by removing the negative cable from the battery, wait for two minutes and then discharge the securing capacitor. To avoid any injury from what could be found inside the air bag, use rubber gloves, safety glasses and a shirt that covers your arms. Be sure to prevent anything that is not part of the system from moving into or touching the side curtain air bag. Place the side curtain air bag into the car, forming a unit and press the plastic piece to the inside of the rail to secure the air bag. Place the side curtain air bag under the grab handle bracket on the upper rail just above the rear door and then push in the front plastic connector to secure the unit. Put the end of the air bag tether into the two plastic push-in hook clips and then clip the metal fastener for the tether into the base of the inner A-pillar. With the side rail facing in, lay the air bag mounting tabs and inflator bracket on the seven studs along the inner roof rail and secure with the seven nuts to 8 Nm (71 in. lbs.). Attach the jumper wire harness to the body wire harness connector for the side curtain air bag in the inner D-pillar area close to the belt line and engage the plastic push-in routing clips that hold the jumper wire harness to the inner D-pillar. Once all other parts are in place, set the headliner back in the vehicle, but ensure the negative battery cable is disconnected until the supplemental restraint system is tested after work is done on any related part.
