2007 Dodge Nitro Rack And Pinion Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair the Rack and Pinion Steering Gear on 2007 Dodge Nitro?
A: The first thing to do when servicing the steering on a 2WD vehicle is to empty the power steering fluid from the reservoir. Lock the steering wheel so the Clock Spring cannot move and then raise and support the car. Pull out the wheel and tire together and then mark the adjusting cams and nut for the tie rod on the rack and pinion ahead of installation. After that, use Puller C-3894-A to pull off the tie rod ends from the knuckles, following unfolding of the tie rod nuts. Remove the bolt from the lower intermediate shaft pinch point and slide the coupler away from the rack and pinion. Switch off the power steering (1 & 2), grab the mounting bolts (2) and thread them out until you have taken out the rack and pinion (1). After that, take the rack and pinion (1) out of the vehicle.
