2008 Dodge Nitro Rack And Pinion Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Rack and Pinion Steering Gear on 2008 Dodge Nitro?
A: For a 2WD vehicle, the first step in installing the rack and pinion is to move each outer tie rod end to the new rack and pinion if that is required. After that, fit the rack and pinion into place and tighten it with its mounting bolts to 176 Nm (130 ft.lbs.). Join the power steering lines to the rack and pinion and fasten the nuts to 27 Nm (20 ft.lbs.). Attach the lower coupler pinch bolt and join the ends of the rack and pinion, tightening everything to 53 Nm (39 ft.lbs.). Fix the tie rod end to the knuckle, then tighten the nuts to 41 Nm (30 ft.lbs.) and rotate them another 90° in addition. After changing the tire, put the tire and wheel together, then set in the skid plate. Drive your car down and unlock the steering wheel, before filling the power steering fluid. Lastly, move the toe again and put the steering wheel in the center.
