2007 Jeep Commander Front Cross-Member Parts and Q&A
Q: How to install a Front Cross-Member on 2007 Jeep Commander?
A: Place the sway bar onto the engine cradle at the beginning and then attach the control arms to complete installation. With the engine cradle in place, fit each engine mount bolt into its proper slot and tighten all four bolts. Bring the cradle back into place using its marks and then tighten the inboard bolts to 150 ft. lbs. and the outboard bolts to 90 ft. lbs. Raise the engine bolt-feet above their stops and install the steering gear, checking that the gearmesh is good. Next, lower the engine onto the engine mounts, making sure it lies flat and tighten the bolts to 111 Nm (82 ft. lbs.). Keep the front differential on the vehicle's side and fit the bolts, tightening the three bolts on the back and right side of the differential to 102 Nm (75 ft. lbs.) and all front bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Secure the propeller shaft and right halfshaft set onto the differential, link the electrical connector and vent hose if you have one and tighten the lower clevis bolts to 169 Nm (125 ft. lbs). Fit the halfshaft knuckle and halfshaft nut and tighten either to 251 Nm (185 ft. lbs.) if available. After that, put in the lower ball joint and tighten its nut to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.), push in the upper ball joint and again tighten the nut to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.). Fasten the outer tie rod end onto the steering knuckle and tighten the ball stud nut to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.). The speed sensor connectors should be linked and the harness clips attached, following this step you need to set the rotors. Don't forget to check and fill the front differential, mount the front skid plates and check and adjust the front wheel alignment when needed.
