2007 Jeep Commander Parking Brake Shoe Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Parking Brake Shoe on 2007 Jeep Commander?
A: Hold the vehicle with a jack, remove the rear wheel and tire and then remove and replace the parking brake shoe. With the fluid reservoir aside, remove the 2 caliper bolts and take out the caliper, but support it so it's not hanging from the brake hose. Take the rubber plug from the hole in the rear disc brake support plate's back. When the parking brake shoes are stuck, raise the adjuster tool to the top of the star wheel and release the foot lever until the shoes come out. After that, take the rotor off the axle hub flange and remove all four nuts on the axle flange. Take out the axle shaft from the rear differential, remove the shoe to shoe return spring with needle nose pliers and then get rid of the adjuster. To remove the other shoe to shoe return spring, you will need brake pliers. Now, connect the ends of the clip to press it downwards and toward the pin and move the clip to get the pin head past the notch before removing the clip and pin. After that, take the shoes off the actuator and lift arm for the hand brake.
