2007 Jeep Compass Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Parking Brake Cable on 2007 Jeep Compass?
A: The first step to servicing and fixing the parking brake cable is to disconnect the battery's negative cable from its post. Make sure the tire and wheel assemblies are blocked, so your car doesn't roll away when you release the parking brake. Lift the floor center console and lower the hand brake lever. Carefully open the adjusting nut on the output cable to ease the strain placed on the parking brake cables, before removing those cables from the equalizer. Take out the rear seat cushion and fold up the rear carpeting so you can reach the parking brake cables at the back. Apply a 1/2 inch (13 mm) wrench to the retainer where the cable connects in order to compress it, then pull the cable housing straight out of the bracket. Pull the car up to a service stand, remove the nuts from the wheel mounts and take out the rear tire and wheel. Open the parking brake assembly and unclip the hair pin keeping the cable connected to the brake support plate. Release the cable from the support plate and out of the trailing link hole, remove the screw that fastens the cable routing clamp to the body and unscrew the nut connecting the clamp to the strap on the fuel tank. Lastly, pull the parking brake cable with sealing grommet through the floor pan's fixing hole.
