2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely and Effectively Service an Air Bag Control Module on 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before servicing the Air Bag Control Module, turn off the supplemental restraint system by taking out the battery negative cable and letting the system capacitor discharge for two minutes. Keep in mind that hitting or dropping the occupant restraint controller might cause the impact sensor to be damaged which means you have to replace the module. Different Occupant Restraint Controllers (ORC) exist; cars with side curtain air bags have black connectors, whereas cars lacking side curtain air bags have gray connectors. First, take off the center console from the top of the floor panel transmission tunnel. Then, separate the wire harnesses from the ORC connector receptacles on the forward side of the module by moving the red lock toward the front of the vehicle, depressing the nearest edge of the lock to release the latch tab and pulling straight on the connector. In the end, remove the three screws keeping the ORC in its mount welded on the top of the transmission tunnel floor panel and take out the ORC.
