How to Service an Air Bag Control Module on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

To service the Occupant Restraint Controller, start by releasing the negative battery cable and waiting two minutes for the system capacitor to release its energy. Pull the center console from above the floor panel transmission tunnel and then unplug both instrument panel and body wire harness connectors from their ORC receptacles on the module's front side by pressing the Connector Position Assurance lock toward the front, gently lifting the latch tab and pulling the connector firm. Then, unscrew the three bolts holding the ORC to the welded mount on the floor panel transmission tunnel and remove the ORC. While installing, secure the ORC to the mount with the bottom of the housing flush and the label's arrow pointing forward. Attach the three screws to the bolts and tighten them to 14 N.m (10 ft. lbs.). Then, plug in the instrument panel and body wire harness connectors to the ORC and secure the latches and red CPA locks. Fit the center console, but do not attach the battery negative cable until the supplemental restraint system test has been done after working on any part of the system. Remember that on cars with side curtain air bags, the ORC connector receptacles are black, whereas cars without them are gray; always work on each component separately and never replace both the occupant restraint controller and occupant classification module together to keep from setting a fault that cannot be reversed.
