2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Parking Brake Shoe Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Parking Brake Shoe on 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: You have to lift the car and take the wheel and tire off first to replace the parking brake shoe. Next, loosen and take out the 2 caliper bolts and then carefully remove the caliper so it doesn't hang from the brake hose. Take out the access plug found at the back of the rear disc brake support plate. If the automatic parking brake is stuck, move the brake adjuster to the top of the wheel and turn it to take up the shoes. After that, detach the rotor from the axle hub flange and unscrew the nuts on each axle arm. When that is done, remove the axle shaft from the rear differential. With needle nose pliers, remove the shoe to shoe return spring before getting the adjuster out. Shoe return spring with brake pliers away from the second shoe. After that, take away the shoe hold-down clips and pins; the pin fits into the clip's notch, so press and slide the clip together, then remove it when you see the pin has cleared the end of the notch. Wingnuts usually hold the actuator lever for the parking brake, so undo them and pull the shoes free from the caliper.
