2007 Jeep Liberty Universal Joint Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Repair a Universal Joint with Snap Rings on 2007 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before doing the repair, press or tap around the bearing cap to loosen the snap ring that holds the universal joint tight. Take out the snap rings 1 from both sides of the yoke and have the yoke positioned so the grease fitting, if related to your tractor, points in the up direction. Get the socket 2 with the larger inside to place inside the yoke beneath the bearing cap and use another socket 2 that will fit over the top of the bearing cap to press the bearing cap into the yoke. If you are unable to pull the bearing cap out by your hands, raise your hammer gently to the piece next to the bearing cap and let the cap drop out. Take off the bearing cap and then turn the yoke so it's in the press upside-down. Press until the cross 1 is through and the left bearing cap 2 is loose. Keep the cross or cap straight as you remove it so you don't damage the walls of the yoke bore.
