  A: The first step to changing the water pump is to clean the gasket areas on 3.7L engines. After that, install the new gasket, position the water pump and tighten the bolts until they reach 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) of torque. Make sure the impeller is clear of the timing chain case/cover as the water pump rotates. Once that's done, connect the radiator lower hose to the water pump and fix the accessory drive belt. Secure the shroud for the upper part of the fan with the air moving parts and be sure the two parts of the shroud are snugly attached. Secure the two fan shroud screws to the radiator and make certain there is at least 25 mm (1.0 inches) from the tips of the fan blades to the inside wall of the fan shroud. Fuel the cooling system, reattach the negative battery cable, start the vehicle and watch as it warms up to look for leaks.
