2008 Jeep Liberty Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace a Water Pump on a 3.7L Engine on 2008 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before you replace your water pump, unhook the negative battery cable and also drain the liquid from the cooling system. When replacing the water pump, do not take the fan blade assembly off the thermal viscous fan drive. After that, take out the two fan shroud-to-radiator screws and disconnect the coolant overflow hose. Once that's done, carefully remove the upper fan shroud, together with the fan blade and viscous fan drive of the vehicle, so that the silicone fluid in the thermal fan drive does not spill into the bearings when the shroud is stored in a horizontal spot. After that, pull out the accessory drive belt and remove the clamp and hose from the water pump below the radiator. Be sure to remove all seven water pump bolts, as well as the stud bolt, without pressing the pump against the timing chain case/cover to keep the machined surface from getting damaged. Eliminate the water pump and the gasket, leaving the gasket for disposal.
