2008 Chrysler 300 Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Steering Knuckle on an AWD on 2008 Chrysler 300?
A: To replace the steering knuckle on an AWD vehicle, start by raising the vehicle, next remove all three wheel mounting nuts and the whole assembly. With the helper sitting on the brakes, unscrew the hub nut from the axle side of the half shaft. After that, separate the clip linking the wheel speed sensor to the knuckle, unscrew the sensor and carefully pull out the sensor. Remove the cover that holds the front brake rotor and then take it off the suspension. Hold the knuckle in place, pull the outer tie rod end stud away and use Special Tool 9360 to separate the tie rod stud from the knuckle. Relax the armor on the lower control arm by loosening its nut and shifting it backwards, so that it is level with the stud tip, before proceeding. Slide the Puller under the boot seal, passing it through the ball joint stud to loosen the knuckle from the stud and then free the nut and the Puller at the stud end. Perform the same process on the upper ball joint stud, holding the nut in its place so that it doesn't get distorted. Unscrew the nut and bracket from the upper ball joint stud after removing its end from the knuckle. After that, pull the knuckle off the half shaft and take it out of the car. Should the hub, bearing and dust shield require removal, unfasten the four bolts attached to the knuckle and then pull the hub and bearing together with the shield out.
