2008 Chrysler Aspen Piston Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install Piston and Connecting Rod Assemblies on 2008 Chrysler Aspen?
A: First, install the piston rings onto the piston and then put the piston and its rings into clean engine oil before installing everything with the connecting rod. Set a ring compressor over the piston and rings and then tighten it gently to prevent the rings from moving. Put the bearing on the connecting rod so their holes line up, brush the bearing surface with engine oil and make sure it is clean and has no dirt on it. Add Special Tool 8507 Connecting Rod Guides on the connecting rod bolt threads. Look for the raised "F" on the piston pin bore of each piston, as it should be positioned so the letter faces the front end of the engine on both sides. Pour engine oil over the cylinder bore, then spin the crankshaft until the journal of the connecting rod is right in the middle of the bore. Guide the rod and piston into the bore, slide the connecting rod guides on the crankshaft journal and hit the top of the piston with a hammer handle to bring the connecting rod near the rod journal. Connecting rod bolts are specified as Torque to Yield Bolts and must always be changed when the engine is brought down. Apply engine oil to the rod bolts and bearing areas, put the connecting rod cap and bearing in place and tighten them to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) plus 90°. After that, place the cylinder head(s), timing chain and cover, cylinder head covers and oil pan with gasket/windage tray in the UB joint. After that, add the right kind of engine oil to the crankcase at the proper level and attach the negative cable to the battery.
