2009 Chrysler Aspen Piston Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Piston's Connecting Rod on 2009 Chrysler Aspen?
A: To replace the connecting rod, first, remove the negative battery link. Also, take out the oil pan and gasket/windage tray, both cylinder head covers, the timing chain cover and the cylinder head(s). When working with cylinder bores, use a reliable ridge reamer to smooth the tops if they are rough and remember to cover the tops of the pistons with the reamer while you work. You must remove the pistons and connecting rods from the cylinder's top, rotate the crankshaft to line up each connecting rod with the bore and then remove them from the engine block. Never mark the connecting rods or caps with a stamp or punch to prevent any harm. Draw or mark on each connecting rod and bearing cap so you do not damage the faces that fit together. After removing the cap from the connecting rod, fit Special Tool 8507 Connecting Rod Guides inside the connecting rod, then pull out the piston from the cylinder bore for every piston. Upon removal of the piston and connecting rod, immediately fit the bearing cap onto the matching connecting rod to stop damage to the broken cap and rod surfaces. At last, take out the piston rings from the pistons, beginning with the uppermost ring.
