2007 Chrysler Aspen Piston Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Piston and Its Connecting Rod on 2007 Chrysler Aspen?
A: Before you replace or remove the piston and connecting rod, detach the negative cable from the battery. Following that, remove the oil pan and gasket or windage tray, cylinder head covers, timing chain cover and cylinder head(s). If there is a ridge around the cylinder bores, use a good ridge reamer to gently grind it down just before removing the pistons to make sure the piston tops are covered. You need to take out the pistons and connecting rods from the top of the cylinder block, rotating the crankshaft so each rod lies centered in its bore. Using a number stamp or punch on the connecting rods or caps might cause damage and should be avoided. Place permanent marks at each point where a connecting rod and bearing cap should be, making sure not to mark or damage the cracked faces of the rod and cap joint. Lift off the connecting rod cap and fit Special Tool 8507 Connecting Rod Guides into the rod. Then remove each piston from the cylinder, repeating the same for all. Take care to prevent scraping the crankshaft journals, since doing so may destroy your engine. In order to stop the crank fractured pieces from wearing or scattering, set the new bearing cap on the same connecting rod right after removing the piston and rod. After finishing the facing, slowly remove the piston rings from the piston, one at a time from the top ring to the bottom one.
