2008 Chrysler Aspen Crankshaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install Crankshaft and Its Components in an Engine on 2008 Chrysler Aspen?
A: Before installing the crankshaft, put a smooth amount of engine oil on the upper main bearing halves to prevent damaging the crankshaft's surfaces. Put the crankshaft in place inside the cylinder block and fasten the thrust washers in front of it. Right before installing the engine, put sealant on the bedplate-to-cylinder block surface to stop large oil leaks, as this will give the seals a firm grip without causing distortion. Dab a 2.5 mm (0.100 inch) Line of Mopar® Gen II Silicone Rubber Adhesive sealant along both sides of the space where the cylinder block joins the bedplate. Wipe clean engine oil over the crankshaft main bearing journals and over the bedplate retaining bolts before you fit the bedplate over the cylinder block. Set up each retaining bolt in line with its meant position and follow the torque sequence: set bolts A - L to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) and bolts 1-10 to 2.8 Nm (25 in. lbs.), twist the latter 90° later and finish with bolts A1 - A6 at 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). First, measure how much crankshaft end play there is, then put in the connecting rods and check their side clearance again. Place the oil pan gasket/windage tray, with a new o-ring, in place and install the oil pickup tube, tightening the bolt and nuts so they reach 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). After that, secure the oil pan into place and tighten each bolt to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) in the correct order before the engine is set in its place.
