2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Maintain the A/C Condenser to Prevent System Malfunction and Compressor Damage on 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: If you are servicing the A/C refrigerant system, it is very important to check and adjust the oil to prevent the refrigerant system from failing and protect the compressor. Add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil to the A/C condenser if you're changing only that unit. Any time the refrigerant line is opened, you must put in new O-ring seals to stop leaks. Setting the air seals for the radiator and condenser properly guarantees best performance when the A/C and engine are running. First, regulate the radiator's position to tilt rearward and put the A/C condenser in the engine's front side, fixing it by bolting it tightly (to 4.5 Nm/40 in. lbs.). Add the upper radiator mounts and afterward, dismantle any tape or plugs from the fittings and condenser ports of the refrigerant line. Oil the new rubber O-ring seals using shop-bought refrigerant oil and then put them on the refrigerant line fittings, using only the O-ring size abc specified for the R-134a system. Secure the A/C liquid line and A/C discharge line to the A/C condenser, using the retaining nuts and tighten them to 20 Nm (180 in. lbs.). Mount the battery support strut again and fix the negative battery cable. Empty the refrigerant from the system and if replacing the A/C condenser, add between 30 and 35 milliliters of refrigerant oil or follow the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart for additional component replacements. Don't forget to recharge the air conditioning system, as needed.
