2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser A/C Clutch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace an A/C Clutch on 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before working on the compressor clutch assembly, cut off the battery cable, then lift and provide support to the car. Get rid of the belly pan and the accessory drive belt. Release the engine wire harness connection from the compressor clutch field coil connector at the top of the A/C compressor. Take off the compressor clutch field coil connector and wire lead from the connector bracket. Secure the clutch plate with a band-type oil filter wrench or strap wrench and then remove the bolt holding the compressor shaft. Do not pull on the clutch plate to separate it from the pulley and bearing assembly, as damage could happen. Try not to lose the clutch shim(s) because you might use them during the assembly. Lightly knock the clutch plate with a plastic mallet to take it off the shaft and then remove the clutch plate and shims together. Slide Pr158 or equivalent Snap Ring Pliers over the snap ring and use them to unhook it from the front of the A/C compressor, then pull out the pulley and bearing assembly. Once you have held the cap in place, remove the snap ring with Snap Ring Pliers 9764 or an alternative and slide out the clutch field coil.
