2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Ball Joint Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Install a Ball Joint and Its Sealing Boot on 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before installing the ball joint, wipe away any dirty grease from the joint stem. When attaching the sealing boot, turn the upward side so it is outward on the seal boot to help protect against heat. Cover the ball joint stud with the new boot, make sure the top lip is facing up. Put the sealing boot around the ball joint by hand. Insert Position Installer 1 over the outside diameter of the sealing boot and push down on the top until the lower control arm 3 is pushed directly up against the seal boot. Take off the headless grease fitting from the ball joint and use a standard zirc-type fitting. Hold on to the headless fitting so you can install it later. You should apply grease to the ball joint ahead of knuckle fitting so that the seal vents properly. After that, adding grease to the joint can be damaging to the seal. Load plenty of Mopar Multi-Mileage Lube or its equivalent into the ball joint seal boot with a hand-operated pump grease gun, so that the grease presses past the ball joint stem. Then, get rid of the standard zirc-type grease fitting and connect the ball joint to the headless grease fitting to ensure you do not need more lubrication in the future. Now, fit the knuckle to the knob.
