2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Control Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace the Control Arm on 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before changing the control arm, lift the vehicle and then remove the nuts on the wheel mounts and loosen the tire and wheel. On every side, separate the stabilizer bar link assemblies by holding the top nut or retainer with a wrench and rotating the bolt. Turning the nut part of the stabilizer bar which is at the forward end, downward might also loosen the stabilizer bar cushion retainer bolts if they are tight. Unfasten the ball joint stud on the knuckle by removing the nut and pinch bolt near it, not pulling the knuckle to the side and causing damage to the C/V joint. Separate the stud from the knuckle by prying down on the lower control arm and up against the ball joint boss of the knuckle using a special prying tool. If you are working on the proper lower control arm, unlatch the wheel house splash shield to the drive belt splash shield and unfasten any studs beneath the front fascia panel to get to the drive belt splash shield fastener at the front. Then, take out the bolt holding the splash shield to the front crossmember and remove the bolts securing it to the body, as well as the splash shield itself. After that, strip the mounting bolts, unbolt the pencil strut from the crossmember and body on the right front and remove the washer on the torque strut bolt found behind the unbolted strut. At last, take out the bolt joining the engine torque strut to the engine, the bolt connecting the engine torque strut to the crossmember and then the engine torque strut itself. Remove the bolt at the front of the lower control arm from the front suspension crossmember, then remove the one at the back of the same arm from the crossmember and frame rail and finally pull out the control arm.
