2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Drive Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace the Drive Belt on a 2.0/2.4L Engine on 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Always check that the engine is off, then inspect the belt's tension to change the belt on the 2.0/2.4L engine. As you fasten the belt, confirm it goes where you intended and all V-shaped sections match with the correct grooves in the pulleys. Connect the belt and change the tension level so it meets the guidelines in the Belt Tension Chart. Set up the generator belt tension gauge adapter on the scan tool, about one of the belt's center spans, place the microphone about 2.54 cm (1 in.) away, pluck the belt at least three times and read the displayed frequency. Set the belt so that it runs at the proper frequency as given in the belt tension chart. Screw each pivot bolt and locking nut to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) when you're finished. Before testing the tension on the power steering pump/air conditioning compressor drive belt, make sure the engine is switched off. Put the belt over the pulleys except the power steering pump one, American Garage Guide and use a wrench to rotate the tensioner clockwise, Regular Cars, letting the spring release so you can tighten the belt around the pump. Once installed, check the belt's length against indicator marks (2, 3 and 5), making sure it matches near the center or middle location of the belt. Set the belt splash shield into place in the end.
