2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Release Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Ensure Proper Functioning of a Release Bearing on a 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: First, take off the transaxle from your car to service and repair the clutch release bearing. Cars with the Diesel and Turbo Engine have a bearing part of the Concentric Slave Cylinder that operates with the release bearing located on the Clutch Hydraulic System. Bring the lever and bearing assembly up to a straight vertical position, then hold the release lever with both hands in the pivot stud socket. As you pull the lever from the center post, use your hand evenly so that you don't need to use a screwdriver or pry bar, as these could damage the spring clip. Take out the whole lever from the bearing thrust plate, careful not to damage the tabs on the bearing. Look at the bearing, as it comes pre-lubricated and sealed; you should not put it in oil or solvent. When lightly pressed, the bearing should move freely and easily feel the lubricant dragging inside it. Should it be noisy, rugged or dry, you should change out the total bearing assembly. On the rear of the clutch release lever, check the pivot stud spring clips; if they are damaged or out of shape, replace the whole clutch release lever.
