2009 Dodge Caliber Piston Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Piston in the Connecting Rod Assembly on 2009 Dodge Caliber?
A: Before removing the piston and connecting rod, be sure that the engine has been removed. After that, take off the cylinder head and release the oil from the engine. Take out the oil pan, oil filter, balance shaft assembly and ladder frame as the next steps. Before you take the pistons out, wipe out any buildup or dirt from the cylinder to make sure the pistons are not scratched. Cover the tops of the pistons with a work mat, then use a ridge reamer to take off the top ride on each cylinder bore. Manually rotate the crankshaft until the connecting rods are centered in their cylinders and then make sure to mark the cylinder numbers on each connecting rod cap with a marker instead of a number stamp or punch. Replace the bottom end of the engine so that you can safely remove and use only the connecting rod bolts only one time. Take each piston and push it out, bearing cap attached to the rod and fit the bearing cap onto the matching rod again for each assembly.
