2008 Dodge Caliber Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove a Shock Absorber on 2008 Dodge Caliber?
A: The shock assembly cannot be disassembled until it is removed from the car. Place the Strut Spring Compressor, teamPSE product 223-7400 or another similar tool on the spring and follow the instructions in the manual.038334 Squeeze the coil spring so that no tension remains on the upper bracket before taking out the shock rod nut. If you replace both shocks, set a mark on the coil spring and shock assembly by their side. If the fuel cycle system contains a noise abatement cap, remove it from the shock assembly. Put the shock assembly into the strut spring compressor, clamp the lower and upper hooks onto the coil spring and squeeze the coil spring until all force is free from the upper bracket and bushings. Try not to use fast and heavy tools to keep the shock's internal bearings safe. Place the Snap-On(R) Shock Absorber Socket A139 on the shocked rod's end after it is highly compressed, avoid the rod from turning and remove the nut and washer that is beneath it with a wrench. Get under the car to remove the shock absorber from the lower end of the coil spring. Doing this will take out the washer, jounce bumper, dust shield and lower spring isolator. Slide the washer, jounce bumper and dust shield off the shock rod and pull out the lower spring isolator from the shock spring seat. After removing the upper mounting bracket, remove all build-up further up the spring and follow the same procedure for the upper mounting bracket. Should your coil spring need service, unscrew the compressor drive to zero, push back the hold-down hooks and remove the spring. Having a good look at shock components, watch for shaft binding, damage from cracks, arising deterioration and any signs of use.
