2008 Dodge Challenger Crankshaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How is a Crankshaft Installed in an Engine on 2008 Dodge Challenger?
A: Choose the needed main bearings, insert them into the block and caps and be sure to lubricate them. Put the crankshaft into the cylinder block and then place the thrust bearings. For each main bearing cap, make sure the arrow is pointing in the direction of movement, clean and oil each bolt and then install everything. Recommended: Screw the bolts of the first main bearing to 10 Nm (15 ft. lbs.), then perform a second tightening to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) in the same order. Also turn the main bearing cap bolts 90° more in the pattern you learned before. Attach the cross bolts using the new seal washers; tighten them to 10 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) in the order required, then do it again at 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) twice in that same sequence. Calculate the end play of the crankshaft. Secure the connecting rods on the crankshaft and add the bearing caps on top of them. Next, fit the timing chain and the sprockets and after that, add the oil pump. After that, install the timing chain cover, the rear main seal and retainer, the windage tray/oil pan gasket and the oil pick-up tube. After that, set the oil pan and vibration damper in place before you install the engine.
