2008 Dodge Sprinter 2500 A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A
Q: What is the Role of the A/C Accumulator in Servicing the Refrigerant System and Adjusting Oil Levels on 2008 Dodge Sprinter 2500?
A: Servicing of the A/C refrigerant system involves checking and adjusting the refrigerant oil level to avoid A/C problems and protect the compressor. The A/C accumulator always needs to be replaced if the A/C compressor develops an internal fault to avoid more damage. If you are only changing the A/C accumulator, add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of the oil as discussed in the next step. Removing the A/C accumulator means changing out the O-ring seals to avoid leaks. Anchoring the accumulator mounting bracket to the A/C accumulator is the first stage. Get rid of any tape or plugs covering the accumulator and condenser ports. Lubricate each new O-ring with clean refrigerant oil and install it onto the fitting points of the condenser, so that you use O-rings that are meant for the R-134a system. Fasten the A/C accumulator to the end of the A/C condenser and then slide the mounting bracket onto the condenser's body. Fix the A/C accumulator with the bolt and tighten it to 6 Nm/53 in. lbs. After completing the rest, attach the A/C condenser fan assembly and the grille. Remove the negative battery cable and release all of the refrigerant. After exchanging the A/C accumulator, insert 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil; or look at the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart if several pieces are being replaced. After all the other steps, charge the refrigerant system.
