2008 Dodge Viper Timing Cover Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove a Timing Cover on 2008 Dodge Viper?
A: Before taking off the timing cover, remove the battery cover from the back, open the trunk and release the negative cable from the battery. Then, uninstall the air cleaner housing assembly and release all the cooling system fluid. After removing both radiator hoses, take out the front strut tower to tower brace. Take out the accessory drive belt and loosen the bolts that hold the power steering pump, but don't disconnect the lines. Take the generator inlet hose from the thermostat housing, unplug the engine temperature gauge sensor and cut out the generator wires before removing the generator. Remove both the crankshaft pulley and the damper, release the heater hose and make sure you disconnect the oil cooler lines with Special Tool 9005. With the bolts taken out, shift the compressor apart from the nacelle but keep all A/C lines attached. Fasten the vehicle on a hoist, remove the engine's oil, then get rid of the pan and the tube of the oil pump. Before removing the timing chain cover bolts, remove the vehicle from its jack, lower it to the ground and remove the A/C compressor mounting bracket.
