2008 Dodge Viper Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove the Camshaft While Ensuring Proper Reassembly of Engine Components on 2008 Dodge Viper?
A: You should find the rocker arms, push rods and hydraulic tappets in your engine, replace them afterward and make sure not to take out the bolt from the rocker arm. You should first remove the cylinder heads and then remove the hydraulic tappets. After that, take away the timing chain case and unplug the A/C compressor electrical cable. Pull out the bolts from the upper A/C compressor and join the oil pan with two bolts before letting the car down. Put the timing marks in the same position and then remove the cam phaser drive plate inner bolt and the two outer bolts, after which you can remove the drive plate itself. Next, get rid of the phaser/sprocket bolt and take out both the camshaft phaser/sprocket and the timing chain. Finally, detach the camshaft thrust plate bolts and the thrust plate and lift the camshaft from the engine block so you don't scratch the cam lobes and the camshaft bearing surfaces.
