2008 Dodge Viper Wheel Hub Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Repair a Wheel Bearing and Wheel Hub on 2008 Dodge Viper?
A: First lift and support the car and after that remove the wheel and tire assembly to start servicing the hub and bearing in the rear. Now, separate the parking brake caliper and the hydraulic brake caliper from the knuckle and hang both out of your way while taking off the brake rotor. Unfasten the bolt that keeps the ABS wheel speed sensor to the steering knuckle, then take off the sensor head. After that, take out the cotter pin, nut lock, spring washer and hub nut, along with its washer. Slide the cap off the toe link stud and take the nut off the end using a spanner. Do not pinch or harm the grease seal when using the Puller, Special Tool C-4150A, to remove the toe link from the knuckle. After that, remove the cotter pin and castle nut off the lower ball joint stud but do not aim any force or heat at the steering knuckle. Push Spacer, Special Tool 6983, inside the ball joint grease boot and control arm, taking care not to hurt the seal boot. Slip the Puller with Special Tool C-4150A over the Spacer and tightly lower the control arm so the ball bearing of the bolt is centered on the lower ball joint stud. Pull on the lower ball joint using the Puller, after which, remove both items and lift the ball joint from the lower control arm. After that, fit Puller, Special Tool CT-1003, around the halfshaft yoke, the hub and the bearing flange and tighten the screw holding the Puller downward so it presses the halfshaft out. Grab the lower part of the knuckle and move the halfshaft out, away from the hub and bearing and then remove the Puller from the hub and bearing flange. Once done, remove the four bolts holding the hub and bearing to the knuckle and lift off the hub and bearing from the knuckle.
