2008 Jeep Commander Battery Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair Battery Cables on 2008 Jeep Commander?
A: Before working on the battery cables, make sure both the ignition switch and all electrical accessories are turned off. Pull the cable off the battery negative terminal using a puller when it is attached with a clamp. Pull back the cover on the battery's positive terminal, reach the pinch-bolt to unscrew and then take off the battery terminal. Unscrew the battery negative cable terminal from its position inside the inner fender. After that, separate the Power Distribution Center and Integrated Power Module cover. Take out the nuts holding the positive cable eyelet terminal of the battery to the B(+) terminal studs found in both the Power Distribution Center and the Integrated Power Module. After that, remove both battery positive cable eyelet terminals. Remove the three pin battery connector from the wire harness and set it aside as you work. When working with 3.7L and 4.7L engines, remove the eyelet terminal nut from the generator output terminal stud and release the battery wire harness connector from the generator field terminal loom receptacle. Repeat the identical methods for the generator output cable eyelet terminal on 5.7L engines. Take out the battery wire harness clips from the studs on the valve cover, then lift the car onto a hoist. Release the fastener holding the negative cable ground eyelet to the engine block and disconnect the eyelet terminal from the block, followed by removing the positive cable eyelet terminal from the B(+) stud on the starter solenoid. Remove the battery wire harness wire connector from the starter solenoid connector receptacle and take out the retaining clips from the engine before removing the whole battery wire harness from there.
