2008 Jeep Commander Rack And Pinion Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Rack and Pinion Steering Gear on 2008 Jeep Commander?
A: Begin by centering and securing the steering column module to stop it from becoming harmed during installation. If the outer tie rod ends were uninstalled, put them in first. Place the rack and pinion into the car again as it was originally taken out, then bolt it down and tighten the bolts to 244 Nm or 180 ft. lbs. After that, put the front splash guard in place and tighten the outer tie rod ends jam nuts just enough so they are loose. Attach one end of the outer tie rod to the knuckle and screw the tie rod end nut firmly to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.). Join the two hoses to the rack and pinion, tighten them to 21 ft-lbs. (28 Nm) and then place the oil filter drip tray. Put the column coupler shaft into the lower coupling and attach it with a new 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.) tightening bolt. Start by placing the front axle housing unit in your 4x4 vehicle, continuing with the wheel and tire assembly. Lower the vehicle and take out the support and afterward take the steering wheel lock off. Give the power steering pump its fluid and change the wheel toe to the recommended alignment.
