2008 Jeep Commander Radiator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Detach a Radiator from Gas Engines on 2008 Jeep Commander?
A: Start by taking the negative battery cable off before trying to remove the radiator from a gas engine. Retain and reuse the coolant by collecting it in an empty container, but do not discard what can be recycled. Remember to put back all rubber seals fixed between the radiator and body parts and between the radiator and the A/C condenser during reinstallation or else the risk of overheating will increase. Afterward, take off the front grille and remove the two bolts holding the radiator. Take off both cooler lines, the control solenoid's electrical connector and the power steering cooler line from the cooler and filter. Part the upper and lower radiator connections, along with the overflow hose. Take out the air inlet duct that's attached to the grille. In the lower area of the radiator, you'll notice two alignment dowel pins put into rubber grommets on the radiator lower crossmember. Bear in mind that even when your engine is turned off, the air conditioning will still be under pressure. Since removing the assembly that includes both the radiator and cooling fan is possible, you don't have to take out the cooling fan before anything else. Loosen the connection of the two high-pressure fluid lines and the single low-pressure return hose between the hydraulic fan and the system. Lift the radiator out of the vehicle's front with care since radiator fins are delicate and may scrape other components.
