2008 Jeep Compass Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Air Bag Sensor on the Inner B-Pillar on 2008 Jeep Compass?
A: The inner B-pillar side impact sensor is serviced by disconnecting the negative battery cable to deactivate the SRS and by waiting at least two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge. Side impact sensors should not be hit or allowed to fall, since this could ruin or calibrate them; a damaged sensor has to be replaced. It is possible to move the front impact sensor to the side and vice versa. Attach the body wire harness connector onto the end of the side impact sensor connector. Carefully attach the exterior sensor to the B-pillar so that the anti-rotation pin on the back of the sensor clicks into its clearance hole in the B-pillar. Install and screw the sensor in the tightly, up to 8 Nm (70 in. lbs.). When the sensor is safe inside, fasten the lower trim to the B-pillar's interior. Never reconnect the battery negative cable until after the service of any SRS part and before running the SRS verification test.
